Cape Trading Post in Cape San Blas is a modern take on the classic general store. Offering everything from pizza to toiletries to a fully-sticked liquor section, the Cape Trading Post truly has everything a vacationer tends to need when away from home. The atmosphere is warm, clean, and welcoming. It doesn’t try to be cute in a kitschy way, but a donut, coffee, and smoothie stand, souvenir section, and giant beach chair (Instagram opportunity if ever there was one) make it a fun stop.
Groceries and Drinks
The Cape Trading Post has t-shirts and fun souvenirs, but it’s far more than just a souvenir shop. They also stock an array of grocery items–so whether you’re grabbing a quick dinner, picking up milk and cereal for the beach house, or grabbing meat to grill on the beach, they’ve got you covered. You’ll also find a huge variety of drinks, from soft drinks to a fully-furnished liquor section.
A well-supplied deli has a variety of fresh foods, like breakfast biscuits that’ll make the entire family happy, and an in-house pizza oven keeps you covered when it comes to take-out. The pizza and deli items here take are surprisingly hot, fresh, and savory; a big step up from what you’d normally expect of a convenience store or grocery store fare. There are a few tables inside, but most people grab what they want and go. If the tables are taken, nearby parks make great picnic spots.
All the Vacation Necessities
Forget a toothbrush/sunscreen/batteries/phone charger? You’ll find it here. Along with fishing tackle, fine cigars, camping supplies, and sun hats. If you need it, chances are good the Cape Trading Post has it; for a clean, well-organized store, it’s amazing what a variety of relevant products they’ve fit inside.
Though the exterior isn’t the most attractive building on the Cape, the Trading Post is truly a one-stop-shop with abundantly reasonable prices. And (dare we say it?) it’s just more fun than traipsing inland to a standard grocery store. You’ll find friendly employees–locals who know the area and won’t hesitate to answer any questions you have about the best local restaurants, beaches, and activities.
The Cape Trading Post is located above the bend on Cape San Blas, just across from Pig Island. It’s convenient to a variety of Cape activities, restaurants, and beach homes, and it’s friendlier and better-supplied that other similar shops in the immediate area.
– Grab your take-out from the Cape Trading Post and head just a few minutes up the road to Cape Palms Park for a nice picnic area and views of the beach.
– The deli sandwiches are nothing to sneeze at; they’re fresh, flavorful, and made to order.
