As a Parisian-style bakery and cafe, Black Bear Seaside is the newest eatery from restaurateur Dave Rauschkolb and Chef Phil McDonald in collaboration with Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Located in The Court at Seaside, on Scenic Highway 30A in the Seaside community, Black Bear Seaside offers the very best in freshly baked pastries, naturally leavened bread, breakfast and lunch items, all in addition to Stumptown Coffee, and some superb alcoholic offerings.
Friends and colleagues Chef Phil McDonald and Dave Rauschkolb shared a vision for a true neighborhood bakery that specializes in naturally leavened baked goods. Out of this dream, the Black Bear Bread Company was born in 2016 in the form of a quaint cafe in Grayton Beach. Today, their team has tweaked and perfected various craveable recipes and launched even more locations, including Black Bear Seaside.
The name for the cafe “Black Bear” was interestingly enough born from a real-life incident when some local bears in Grayton Beach were caught helping themselves to some test bread that had been discarded in a dumpster by the founders. After that, the owners knew the name for their brand had to be Black Bear after that incident.
As a brand, the Black Bear’s mission is to rise to the occasion with mindfully sourced ingredients featuring only the freshest products. Consequently, the inspiration for the cafe menu comes from sensibly sourced seasonal local produce. All this is in addition to the love that is poured into everything the company shares with its beloved guests. It is the conglomeration of precision, seasonality, and service, benefiting all that enter any of its locations. It always promotes fresh, local ingredients with exceptional service.
There are no corners cut when it comes to sourcing products mindfully. In fact, the brand has worked to cultivate personal relationships with vendors, farmers, and growers to ensure their food is always made of sustainably produced, high-quality ingredients. Daily specials will change based on what is in season and is in bountiful supply for the local farms.
