Pensacola’s Urban Swinery may be most notable for its cheeky name, but there’s so much more to this unique wine bar and restaurant. As its name suggests, the establishment specializes in wine and pork-based menu items, which, although a seemingly random pairing, combine perfectly together under the right circumstances.
Despite its status as new kid on the block, Urban Swinery is already backed by an impressive reputation. It is the second venture spearheaded by the nearby Global Grill‘s co-owners, who decided to try their hand at cultivating a casual dining experience. Once worried that Global Grill’s white tablecloths and other refined features might scare some potential visitors away, Frank and Jane Taylor now seek to welcome such diners to a laid-back atmosphere that still captivates with amazing flavors.
Meat forms the center of Urban Swinery’s menu, although a few vegetarian items are also available. Big appetites can be satisfied with the restaurant’s sandwiches and main entrees, including the Pig of the Day. Other visitors may prefer to focus on wine and eat snacks or small plates instead. No matter what you order, you’ll be impressed by the attention to detail, which is evident in every bite.
As you peruse the food menu, don’t forget to explore the vast selection of wine and craft beer. Not sure where to start? Feel free to ask for recommendations. The restaurant’s knowledgeable staff members know which drinks pair best with top snacks and meals — and they’re happy to steer you in the right direction. If you’re not in the mood for alcoholic beverages, you’ll be pleased by the impressive selection of craft sodas and lemonades, which are just as delicious.
A few of our favorite menu items include the following:
Go Pig or Go Home
With a name like this, it’s tough to refuse the iconic Urban Swinery sandwich. Served on a pretzel roll, this popular menu item features juicy pork butt that has been smoked to perfection for 24 hours, as well as pig planks and grilled andouille sausage. Vinegar slaw provides the perfect hint of sour to contrast the sandwich’s BBQ sauce. Like every sandwich at Urban Swinery, this local favorite is served with pickles and your choice of loaded red potato salad, blue cheese coleslaw, fries, or the pasta salad of the day.
A limited appetite shouldn’t impede you from enjoying the best of Urban Swinery’s offerings. If you’re unable to handle massive servings, opt for this small plate instead. It features smoked and fried Danish ribs, plus ginger bean sprouts and a Korean-style sauce.
If you’re primarily visiting for the wine but would like to snack alongside family members or friends, feel free to order this versatile board, which is loaded with a variety of cured and smoked meats, plus several imported cheeses, fruits, pickles, pecans, and bread.
Pork is by no means the only option at Urban Swinery. This salad instead features grilled duck medallions along with baby arugula, candied pecans, goat cheese, and apple crisps. The delectable salad is dressed with unique apple andouille balsamic.
At Urban Winery, you’ll find several wonderful desserts to end your dream dining experience. The apple donuts are especially satisfying. Featuring battered rings of Granny Smith apple, these tasty donuts are dusted in cinnamon and served with coffee ice cream and syrup.
Urban Swinery provides the ultimate proof that a sophisticated palate can be satisfied in a laid-back setting. Stop in to discover the best of Pensacola cuisine as you enjoy a wonderful glass of wine.
– Plan ahead if you intend on visiting during the dinner rush, as this restaurant, unfortunately, does not take reservations.
– The sandwiches served at Urban Swinery tend to be very messy, so consider using a fork or knife — or even asking for sauces and gravies on the side.
