Located across the street from the beach, Shuckums Oyster Pub & Seafood Grill is a fantastic family-friendly restaurant offering fresh seafood in an inviting atmosphere.
You will find Shuckums Oysters Pub & Seafood Grill right on Front Beach Road, west of downtown Panama City Beach and just east of Public Beach Access 54. Today, this portion of beachfront property is quite built up, but it wasn’t always that way. Having first opened its doors in 1967, Shuckums Oysters Pub & Seafood Grill is one of the longest-running establishments along this stretch of road. The restaurant was started by an old fisherman and sold to the current owner Mark Carter, in February 1982 for $16,500 — name and business. Carter lived out in a trailer at the beach as he remodeled the wooden shack into something a touch more welcoming with the help of family members. Back then, the restaurant could only house 35 patrons; today, over 300 can come in and enjoy freshly shucked oysters and other fresh seafood entrees.
This is a place where good food meets good service within a fun environment. Shuckums Oysters Pub & Seafood Grill likes to say they serve all of their food with a big side of Southern hospitality. They also have the comedic motto of, “We shuck’um, you suck’um,” which nicely fits what some might call a more dive bar decor.
When you walk into this Panama City Beach restaurant, undoubtedly the first thing you are going to notice is all the dollar bills adorning the walls. At last count, there is estimated to be over $50,000 one dollar bills taped, stapled, and otherwise adhered to the wall — each of them signed by a visitor. If you look closely, you might even find some names you recognize as Shuckums Oysters Pub & Seafood Grill has cracked shells for Jim Carey, Martin Short, Alan Jackson, and others. New visitors are always welcome to take their own dollar bill, sign it, and hang it up to add to the always-growing collection.
Naturally, when it comes to a place called Shuckums Oysters Pub & Seafood Grill, oysters are going to be the highlight menu item. Most all the oysters served here come fresh from Apalachicola and other regional fishing spots. You can order your oysters raw, steamed, baked, or topped with things like crispy bacon bits.
Not in the mood for oysters? Other popular menu items include:
Shrimp Jammers
This appetizer features fried balls stuffed with shrimp and Monterey Jack cheese, served with a savory jalapeno ranch dipping sauce. It’s crispy, spicy, and often the perfect start to a meal at Shuckums Oyster Pub & Seafood.
Fish Tacos
This menu item features a white fish of the day served fried or grilled, your choice. The tacos come loaded with a delicious homemade shredded cabbage and pico de gallo filling that is topped with a drizzle of chipotle ranch. These tacos, as well as other taco menu items, come with a side of hush puppies and the second side of your choice.
Shrimp & Scallops Entree
This is a massive entree platter featuring large shrimp and scallop skewers that come served across a bed of rice. You can choose to have your shrimp and scallops served fried, grilled, or blackened (or a combination of that). As with the tacos, this platter comes served with a side of hush puppies and the second side of your choice.
Insider Tip:
Karaoke is a daily event here, getting started at 5 pm and going on until the bar’s closing time. If you are looking for a quieter dining experience, we recommend visiting Shuckums Oyster Pub & Seafood during lunch hours to avoid the ruckus. However, if you like to feel like part of a community and want to join in on some songs (or on watching others perform some songs), then make sure to come later in the evening for the festivities!
