For decades, Shuckums Oyster Pub & Seafood Grill has captured the best of Panama City Beach hospitality with its delicious oysters and friendly service. What’s not to love about a restaurant with the motto “We shuckum, you suckum”?
When you enter the original Shuckums building, you’ll be taken aback by the dollar bills. You’re welcome to join in on this popular tradition; simply bring a dollar and sign it. Make a mental note of where it ends up — if you’re like most returning visitors, you’ll want to find your signed dollar bill as soon as you set foot in the restaurant. Keep in mind as you put your mark on your bill that the brighter and sillier, the more likely you are to successfully locate it upon your return.
Dollar bills are just one sign of the inherent quirkiness of Shuckums. It’s impossible to deny that this restaurant attracts an eclectic bunch. It’s a decidedly casual atmosphere, as evidenced not only by the decor, but also by the trays on which your oysters are served. Don’t be afraid to get messy!
While oysters are clearly the highlight at Shuckums, seafood skeptics should have no trouble finding something tasty to sample. The menu includes a range of delightfully greasy options, including fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, wings, and several tasty burgers. Likewise, the kid’s menu is capable of satisfying even the pickiest of youngsters. Youth favorites include mini corn dogs, chicken nuggets, and fish fingers — all served with fries.
Go beyond your usual dining experience with karaoke. This nightly event draws large crowds, so arrive early if you want to sing. If you’re not feeling brave enough to belt out your favorite songs, you’re welcome to join the audience and show your support by singing along. A variety of genres are represented; depending on when you visit, you might hear classic rock or the latest pop hits.
Despite the party atmosphere, the restaurant’s family-friendly karaoke events attract plenty of kids. Keep in mind, however, that it gets loud when karaoke starts up — and the restaurant can be noisy even without the off-tune singing. If you’re on the hunt for a peaceful experience, you’ll definitely want to look elsewhere.
A few of our favorite menu items include the following:
Forget imitation crab; these homemade crab cakes feature real lump crab meat seared on a flat grill. The cakes are garnished with a delectable stone-ground mustard sauce.
Stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese and fried to perfection, these tasty jammers are sure to satisfy your fried shrimp cravings — especially if you dip them in the accompanying jalapeno ranch dressing.
Double Dare Burger
Who knew a double dare could taste so delicious? As the burger version of the double dare, this hearty sandwich comes complete with two eight-ounce patties, bacon, and cheese. You’d best be hungry, as this amounts to over a pound of meat — not to mention the bun, fixings, and fries.
Baked Oyster Sampler
It’s no secret that baked oysters are the main attraction at Shuckums — and you’ll find your fair share of options. If you’re struggling to choose, you’ll definitely want to order this sampler, which includes three of the restaurant’s most beloved recipes: the Krab, Jalapeno, and PC Baked oysters.
Take your po’boy to the next level with a pile of fried oysters. This mouthwatering sandwich includes lettuce and tomato. Like all Shuckums sandwiches, it’s served with fries.
