Simple and down-to-earth, the Shrimp Basket Restaurant serves large portions of seafood classics in a casual setting. One of several Shrimp Basket locations on the Emerald Coast, the Panama City Beach branch is situated near several hotels and tourist attractions.
The interior looks much like that of other local Shrimp Basket establishments: sea-themed decor, a small bar with a TV, and large windows that let in plenty of light. You’ll also find a patio area with seating that, while slightly less comfortable, allows you to hang out with your dog and gaze at the Gulf as you catch the breeze.
No matter where you sit, you’ll appreciate the friendly service. Wait times can be hit or miss, even when the restaurant doesn’t seem to be busy. Thankfully, the establishment is pleasant. If you’re in a hurry, consider ordering your meal for takeout.
While the Shrimp Basket is a top spot for fried seafood, it doesn’t exactly excel at offering non-seafood cuisine. Consider eating elsewhere if you’re not big on fish or shrimp, as your options will be decidedly limited. While the same appears to apply to kids at first glance, the restaurant’s children’s menu offers chicken strips, grilled cheese sandwiches, and quesadillas. Adults enjoy not only seafood, but also cold beer, wine, and sweet tea.
A few of our favorite menu items include the following:
There’s no substitute for the restaurant’s namesake meal, which boasts a sizable serving of hand-battered and lightly-fried shrimp. You’ll also receive a corn fritter, two hush puppies, French fries, and the Shrimp Basket’s signature shrimp slaw.
Crab Burger in Paradise
You love burgers and you love crab cakes — so why not include them together in one mouthwatering sandwich? In between your crab cake and beef patty, you’ll find a melted slice of cheese. Your sandwich also includes lettuce, tomato, and pickles. A delicious side of French fries completes your meal.
Low Country Boil for Two
If you visit the Shrimp Basket during date night, don’t hesitate to order this Emerald Coast favorite, which is specifically designed to be enjoyed by two hungry visitors. This dish’s seasoned and steamed shrimp are piled with Conecuh sausage, corn, and potatoes. Like many seafood meals at the Shrimp Basket, the low country boil is served alongside shrimp slaw.
Shrimp Étouffée with Rice
Enjoy a taste of Louisiana in the heart of Panama City Beach with the Shrimp Basket’s take on shrimp étouffée. Featuring a brown roux loaded with mixed veggies and Gulf shrimp, this delectable meal is served atop a bed of rice.
Chicken Breast Platter
Can’t stand seafood? You’ve arguably come to the wrong place. Thankfully, a few chicken-based meals are available. This platter may be your best bet — and you just might find yourself ordering it even if you adore shrimp and catfish. Available grilled, blackened, or Cajun-style, your chicken is served alongside the usual Shrimp Basket platter offerings: hush puppies, shrimp slaw, a corn fritter, and your choice of an additional side. If you’re not interested in the slaw, you might be able to exchange it for a different side — or you can simply hand it off to a seafood-loving member of your party.
From shrimp to grilled chicken, there’s plenty to love about the hearty baskets and platters served at Panama City Beach’s Shrimp Basket Restaurant. Arrive with a big appetite and get ready to indulge in greasy, but flavorful seafood.
