Local Steamer Seafood Market is a locally owned and locally loved steamed seafood restaurant. You won’t find fancy white table clothes, expansive wine lists and $100 entrees here. What you will find is a variety of seafood that’s perfectly cooked and priced affordably.
Several of the seafood selections at Local Steamers Seafood Market come from the Gulf of Mexico, but the restaurant doesn’t limit its choices to what the Gulf offers. In addition to royal red shrimp and bay scallops, there’s also snow crab and tuna dip (a house specialty).
For non-seafood options, the menu features a couple of different sausages, steamed corn, and steamed potatoes — all of which are the perfect sides for a classic seafood meal.
Drink choices consist of basic Pepsi products, which you grab from the cooler yourself. There’s no need to ask what’s in the wine cellar because this simply isn’t that type of place. All of the food tastes just as good (if not better) than what you might get at a five-star restaurant, though.
The consistently high quality of the food here can be largely attributed to the owners of the restaurant. Locals themselves, the owners are regularly on-site in the kitchen and ensure everything is properly prepared.
For seafood, the prices here are quite affordable. Platters of shrimp and/or snow crab tend to run between $20 and $26 per person, and most items can be purchased by the pound also. A pound of shrimp, scallops or snow crab costs between $16 and $20.
For delicious seafood at a local joint, this is where the locals who live in Pensacola go. It’s well worth a visit if you want a no-frills but absolutely delicious shellfish platter.
A few of our favorite menu items at Local Steamer Seafood Market include:
Seafood Platter for Two
Dine family-style with a Seafood Platter for Two (or Four), and you’ll have a tempting mix of snow crab, shrimp, sausage and corn. Purchasing together nets you a slight discount on the price, and there’s enough variety that everyone will find a favorite food on the platter.
Pound of Royal Red Shrimp
Royal Red Shrimp are a Gulf of Mexico delicacy that come from deep, cold waters out in the ocean. These shrimp are so-named because they’re red when raw, and they have a naturally sweet flavor than most other shrimp species.
If you like scallops, these freshly caught scallops from the bay are full of both flavor and texture. They normally come lightly seasoned, and each one is absolutely delectable.
Large Tuna Dip
The large tuna dip is a house specialty that’s not to be missed. Order one as an appetizer to share before you dig into the main course of the meal.
The Gator Sausage is made from premium gator meat, and it has a slightly distinct flavor that’s different from the Links Sausage which is also available. If you’ve never tried gator, this is the perfect opportunity to order a side for the group to share.
– You can order your food to dine in or carry out, but seating here is limited. There are only three tables for eating here, so you might want to get your order to go if you’re coming at the peak lunch or dinner hour.
