Panama City Beach hasn’t been the same since Funland opened in 1953. Thanks to the many generations of families who have visited this arcade and snack bar, it’s the oldest one of its kind in all Northwest Florida. This place has done a great job of modernizing its facilities without abandoning the original concept that made it popular in the first place.
With over 100 arcade games plus children’s rides (e.g., small indoor carousel, etc.), there really is something for all ages. Even parents who would rather avoid video games can play a game of air hockey or pinball with their kids. And for those who would prefer a true throwback to the arcades of yore, you’ll find a vintage section filled with machines that have survived the test of time.
Some families stop into Funland to give their children the chance to blow off steam, win a few tickets, and get a couple of small prizes. Use their RFID card instead of having to straighten out dollar bills or feed dozens of coins into a machine.
You can also choose to make a full day of the visit, or even take the opportunity to throw a birthday party in this fun-filled place. With Funland’s birthday parties, you can choose from hotdogs, hamburgers, or pizza, plus soda and cake. You’ll also get 70 tokens for the arcade as well, so all the kids can test their skills.
Funland also features a menu of kid classics plus a dairy bar for some soft serve or a root beer float. While it may not be the most gourmet of offerings, it includes options for both adults and children.
If you’re feeling peckish, try some of our favorites from their eatery:
Grilled Ham and Cheese
This classic sandwich gets a bit of an upgrade when it’s thrown on the grill for the cheese to melt into the crusty bread. Order a side of fries and an ice-cold soda to go along with it for a combo that can’t be beaten.
Kid’s French Toast Sticks and Milk
French toast sticks are a sweet way to start off your morning, and a fun departure to the standard slices of bread. Easier to handle for small hands and covered with powdered sugar and syrup, just make sure your kid has enough time to exhaust themselves before you have to get back in the car.
Corn Dog
Few things are more iconic than enjoying a corn dog before playing a round of Skee-Ball. Dipped in batter and fried, this delightful snack can be dressed up in all your favorite condiments before being devoured.
Funland is a serious place to have a good time, and its owners and staff have had nearly 70 years of practice to get it right. As you share the joy with the little ones in your life, you’ll be instantly transported to an era that didn’t rely on smartphones or home video game systems to get their kicks.
Insider Tips:
– Funland uses RFID cards as opposed to standard coins and dollars. Pay for as much or as little as you’d like.
– Find vintage machines that still take tokens or coins in a special section of the arcade.
– Visit the dairy bar after a few games for a banana split or a scoop of ice cream.
