BigFish Bike Rentals offers lengthy bike rentals to vacationers who are staying along 30A. A family-owned and -operated business, they’ve been helping visitors pedal the pathway that runs from Grayton Beach to Rosemary Beach for more than a decade.
The bikes that Bigfish Bike Rentals carry run the gamut from single-speed beach cruisers to highly capable family-haulers. The Beach Cruisers come in various sizes and are among the most popular choices, but kids also like the BMX Hand Brake models. If you’re planning on some non-paved riding, Mountain Bikes are also available.
Should you need one of those family-haulers, there are multiple ways to set up your kids. A Wee-Hoo (uncovered trailer) and Trailer (with cover) accommodate children under 3 feet tall, while a Hitch-Hiker (bike seat trailer) and BMX Coaster Brake with Training Wheels are well-suited to children between 3 and 4 feet tall. Once kids reach 4 feet, they’re typically good cyclists themselves and capable of handling a junior bike on their own.
While the owners will work with you to find a suitable rental length, the standard rental options are geared toward longer use. A half-day is the shortest standard option, and they go by the day from there. A full week rental comes with a slight discount, and additional days thereafter are only $5.
The rental costs themselves depend on what type of bike you get but expect to pay between $25 and $40 per bike (or trailer) per day. Tandems and Tricycles are the most expensive, and trailers and beach cruisers cost the least.
Because this is a family-owned and -operated company, you’ll usually talk directly to the owner or one of his family members. This level of owner involvement in the outfit ensures that every customer receives top-notch service, and they’ll try to accommodate special requests if you have them.
A paved pathway runs along the 12-mile stretch that connects Alyse Beach, Blue Mountain, Deer Lake, Grayton, Grayton Beach, Rosemary Beach, Seagrove, Seacrest, Seaside, and Watercolor. If you’re renting lodging anywhere along here, schedule a bike rental for the duration of your stay. You’ll notice more of the area that if you drove and won’t have to worry about parking. In short, you’ll find that this is a great way to explore these Emerald Coast towns.
A few of our favorite bikes at BigFish Bike Rentals include:
Beach Cruiser
A basic bike that’s made for pedaling along the shore, the Beach Cruiser is perfect if you plan to spend a lot of time in the sand.
Mountain Bike
Build for a little more aggressive riding, a Mountain Bike will get you where you want to go. The additional gears make long rides a bit easier, and the tires will handle some rougher terrain if you head off the main pathway.
Trailer
If you have small children who are less than 3 feet tall, a Trailer is the perfect bike attachment. It seats two small kids comfortably, and the cover provides a little protection from the elements (including the sun).
Hitch Hiker
A bike seat and pedal that hook onto your bike’s seat, the Hitch Hiker is great for children who can ride a bike but don’t have the stamina to go 12 miles. Set them up behind you, and let them do as much or as little work as they want to.
Insider Tip:
Want to ride a bike but don’t have a car to pick it up in? BigFish Bike Rentals will deliver your bike(s) directly to your door, and they’ll come to pick the bikes up when you’re done with them.
