The Apple Market - An Eatery that Offers Far More Than Meals
Local Expert's Rating:
4.5 / 5
The Bottom Line:

The Apple Market offers its own coffee shop, butcher, and produce section. You can find anything from a bottle of wine to a (future) million-dollar painting from one of Pensacola's talented artists. There's also a deli section that offers a number of prepared foods, including entrees, breakfasts, sandwiches, and dessert.

Apple Market is a bit of a one-stop-shop for everything from coffee to box lunches to entrees. Stop by for dessert, a deli sandwich, or a big helping of roast beef. Dubbed The Biggest Little Store in Town by its many devoted shoppers, it has everything from an award-winning butcher to a killer wine selection.

This local hotspot was founded in 1996 by David Apple, a man with an eye for quality. He ensured that every craft beer, cheese, vegetable, and cut of meat was nothing short of five-star, and his customers instantly noticed the difference. Lots of people will come here for a loaf of bread and end up walking out with bags of gourmet treats that they didn’t even reality they were in the market for.

There’s nothing corporate about The Apple Market. It’s entirely devoted to the people of the area, just ask the artists who hang their works on the walls. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served here on every day of the week at the deli. Their menu includes both hot and cold sandwiches as well as homemade salads and quiches.

There’s also a small kiosk inside the store known as the Drowsy Poet. Steamed milk, chocolate shavings, and strong espresso make for a morning treat that would go perfectly with one of the Market’s many breakfast selections.

When you’re at The Apple Market, keep your eyes peeled for the following:

Country Fried Steak
When you’re in the mood for comfort food, few things hit the spot more than country fried steak. Hot sides for the entrees include mashed potatoes, broccoli, rice, lima beans, and turnip greens. There’s also apple cinnamon or blueberry bread pudding to really complete the entree.

Breakfast Sandwich
If you’re planning to indulge in the morning before a big sea excursion, a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich ticks off all the boxes. Rich, salty, and satisfying, this sandwich pairs especially well with a cup of strong coffee to get you that much more energized for a day spent at the waves.

Strawberry Candied Pecan Salad
The accouterment of this salad gives every bite the sweetness it needs to be every bit as delicious as it sounds. Candied pecans are a staple of the South because their flavors permeate without overwhelming the dish. Try this when you’re looking for something lighter without the need to give up the flavor.

Mini Crab Cakes
The Apple Market offers a number of dishes that are a la carte for when you only want a snack to keep you going. These mini crab cakes are a delight, even if you can finish them off in just a few bites. The fresh crab is a nod to the waters that lay just beyond the door of the shop.

There are plenty of reasons to stop by The Apple Market, not least of which is due to their penchant for pleasing their customers at every turn. Guests here rave about the customer service, largely because there’s an emphasis on the experience of the customer — not how much they’re spending at the cash register.
