The Science & Discovery Center of Northwest Florida is an engaging museum that caters to people of all ages and education levels. The museum’s foci are science, technology, and history, and there’s plenty to learn within each of these subjects.
As educational as the center is, everything here is designed to be both interactive and lots of fun. For example, a giant pirate ship lets kids explore what sailing the high seas used to be like. There are also live animal exhibits and an interactive video wall.
Moreover, the center is also committed to making the educational and fun activities affordable for families. Admission is $7 for adults, and $6 for children, seniors and members of the military.
There aren’t any substantial refreshments available on-site, so families should plan on visiting between meals. A small snack is alright to bring in case really young children get hungry.

Dino Dig
Let your little ones learn how to be paleontologists. Comb through the dirt and sand, seeing whether you can dig up any dinosaur bones.
Pirate Ship
To the sails! Climb aboard the massive Pirate Ship and set a course on the high seas. The only thing limiting your adventure is your own imagination.
Digital Wall
Play with images in this Digital Wall. A live video feed projects images akin to what mirrors in the funhouses of yesteryear would show.
Reptile Exhibit
The Reptile Exhibit was recently remodeled and expanded. Peruse the various tanks, and try to spot all of the scaly creatures.
Animal Encounters
For an even more up-close encounter with the reptiles, attend one of the Animal Encounters demonstrations. Get a firsthand view of some of the center’s most interesting creatures in a safe and supervised setting.
Insider Tips:
– The center regularly holds events, which range from hour-long presentations to week-long camps. Call ahead to ask if there are any upcoming scheduled events, and try to visit when these are going on. All of the demonstrations are well done and worth seeing if you’re interested in the topic.
– If you’re visiting from out of town and have a membership at another science museum, this center may have a reciprocal agreement. Ask whether they have an arrangement with your home museum. If they do, you could get in for free.
