3.5 / 5
The Bottom Line:

The Marble Slab is a family-friendly destination featuring fresh ice cream made in small batches. Your order is mixed on a frozen stone so it won't melt and can include as many toppings as you like. These franchise partners with MaggieMoo's, a dairy treatery that's serious about freshness and flavor.

At the Marble Slab Creamery in Destin, the goal is to do more than just present you with a delicious ice cream cup or cone — this favored spot on the coast gives you a bit of a show before you enjoy your treat. Your creation is prepared right in front of you on an ice-cold marble slab. Pick your favorite flavor and all the toppings you can handle and watch as it all comes together.

The dairy at this location comes from local farms in the area and every small batch is mixed in the store. This not only allows the staff to perfect their quality control, but it also gives them more room and flexibility to experiment with the contents of each mixture. Marble Slab ice cream may not be perfect, but that won’t stop the staff from trying.

Marble Slab partners with MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream and Treatery. (Both are franchise companies under the Global Franchise Group.) MaggieMoo’s got its start in Kansas City by a husband-and-wife team in the late 1980s. Unsurprisingly the business was named after a cow on their small farm. But it wasn’t long before they had 90 units open, stretching out from Kansas City to Lincoln, Topeka, and St. Louis.

The Marble Slab also got its start in the 1980s, though it was called Cones & Cream back then. The original idea to start mixing ice cream toppings (rather than just plopping them on top) came from an ice cream store in Boston. Marble Slab was the first ice cream shop to use the frozen granite slab to ensure that the ice cream didn’t begin to melt under the friction of the mixing.

If you’re stopping in with an appetite, try the following creations:

Cheesecake Ice Cream
Combining the creaminess of cheesecake and ice cream was always inevitable. Throw in some chocolate chips or peanut butter cup crumbles, and it’s even better. It might be one of the more indulgent snacks you have in Destin, but you’re unlikely to regret it.

Cappuccino Ice Cream

For those who want a touch of bitter mixed in with the sweetness of the cream, you should really try this coffee-flavored concoction. Dress it up with some Oreos, cookie dough, or sprinkles and then dive right in.

Mint Chocolate Meltdown Cake
The cool mint ice cream from Marble Slab is enhanced with vanilla frosting and chocolate syrup. Finished off with delectable Andes® mints, this cake is designed to melt in your mouth (and bring it down a notch or two in temperature). If you’re hosting a pool party or a beach-day birthday, this is definitely the cake for you.

Butter Pecan Ice Cream Pie
If you love butter pecan ice cream, you should probably go out of your way to try it on top of a graham cracker crust and finished with plenty of pecans and a delicious whipped topping. While it may not bring the same warm feeling as a pecan pie would on Thanksgiving, it’s guaranteed to make your summer a little sweeter.

The mixed-in toppings of Marble Slab provide a uniform experience in every bite. Whether you love salty, sweet, sour, or bitter, there’s a flavor combo that’s perfect for you. This Destin destination would be happy to make it.
