If your idea of an enjoyable afternoon includes fishing and panoramic views of the Gulf, you’re in for a treat. At M.B. Miller County Pier, you’ll find a relaxed setting and gorgeous scenery. Also known as the Bay County Pier, this lovely enclave is a favorite fishing spot among locals — and a romantic go-to for couples on the hunt for the perfect sunset.
The pier offers a decent-sized lot where you can park for free. However, access to the site itself is not free. You’ll be charged a small fee, which covers the cost of admission and your fishing license. This provision is actually highly convenient for tourists, who can skip the hassle of securing the proper license. If, however, you simply intend to stroll along the pier for a few minutes, the fee might convince you otherwise. Many non-fishers, however, believe the pier is still worth a visit.
As a fisher, you’ll find Bay County Pier enticing purely for the variety of catches possible at this sought-after site. Fish caught in season include flounder, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, and cobia, among others. An onsite bait and tackle store offers all of the supplies you could possibly need for a successful day of fishing, including rod rentals.
If you’re not into fishing, you’ll still find plenty to love about M.B. Miller County Pier. Take a leisurely stroll and make the most of the spectacular view. The pier extends 1,500 feet, so you’ll have plenty of time to amble along and enjoy the scenery.
If you’re lucky, you’ll see manta rays, sea turtles, and even dolphins from your perch. Birders also find plenty of species, including pelicans and seagulls. The fish are just as fun to watch; gaze into the water as they swim in schools. You can also observe the pier’s talented fishers as they make impressive catches. Grab a spot on one of several benches and relax as you take it all in.
Public restrooms are located onsite. Near the parking area, you’ll find a washroom with limited hours. A portable restroom is conveniently situated halfway down the pier. If you’re craving a snack, however, you might have to pack your food in advance or look elsewhere. Options can be limited at the pier, but several excellent bars and restaurants are located within walking distance.
