Sunnyside Grill: Hole-in-the-Wall with Tasty Home-Cooked Meals
Local Expert's Rating:
4.5 / 5
The Bottom Line:

Sunnyside's pink walls might not look like the shiniest attraction on the coast, but they're home to some of the best breakfast and lunch food you'll find among Sunnyside on the Gulf's offerings. Although there's limited seating inside and sometimes a line forms outside the door, once you're seated you'll enjoy attentive, down-home service and home-cooked food that'll knock your socks off. The quirky, fun interior decor adds to the experience.

A cozy, quirky hole-in-the-wall joint specializing in savory, home-cooked meats and sides, Sunnyside Grill is a longtime favorite in Panama City Beach. The pink-walled cottage is hard to miss, and inside, you’ll find the unique atmosphere of a restaurant that’s been around for almost 30 years, collecting memories and mementos of travelers and guests along the way. Unique dollar bills from around the world, sports memorabilia, and beachy decor paper the interior walls. Seating is limited and a line often forms outside, but the wait is well worth it.

Sunnyside keeps odd hours at times; it’s worth calling or checking their Facebook page before popping in for breakfast or lunch.

Some of our menu favorites at Sunnyside Grill include:

Cheeseburgers
There’s nothing otherworldly about the burger selection at Sunnyside Grill, but you can expect that they’ll be perfectly seasoned and cooked, that tomatoes and lettuce will be fresh, crisp, and flavorful, and that they’ll be served hot, fresh, and to order. The cheeseburgers are always a crowd-pleaser, an easy choice when faced with chronic menu indecision.

Country Fried Steak
Sunnyside does country fried steak the right way–tender, crispy, savory, and golden-fried, topped with homemade gravy that’s worth its weight in gold. Served with grits, this is a hearty down-home meal that’s sure to hit the spot.

Omelets
With such a huge variety of omelets on the menu, it’s hard to choose just one–but for a hearty, memorable breakfast, it’s hard to beat the Prime Rib Omelette for delectable goodness. The veggie omelet is hard to beat, though, and other offerings–from ham to kielbasa to simple cheese, bacon, or sausage omelets–are also solid choices, consistently cooked and served hot, fresh, and delicious.

When you stop at Sunnyside, don’t be fooled by the exterior; there’s nothing fancy about this place, but the food makes up for anything lacking in the surroundings. Inside, you’ll likely be charmed by the quaint, down-home atmosphere–and by all the mouthwatering food.

Sunnyside Grill is located on Front Road north of PCB in Sunnyside on the Gulf. It’s just a block from the beach, within easy walking distance of many popular beach rentals, and just down the road from Camp Helen State Park.
