The Salty Goat Saloon in Panama City Beach: Locals’ Dive Bar With Better-Than-Average Eats
Local Expert's Rating:
4 / 5
The Bottom Line:

A dive/biker bar with plenty of character (and a welcoming attitude), the Salty Goat Saloon has ice-cold beer, sports on TV, regular live music, and a pub-grub menu with plenty to recommend it. Open most of the day and deep into the wee hours, the Salty Goat also boasts a sliver of an ocean view from its deck.

If you’re looking for a no-frills, unpretentious, locals’ hangout along the PCB oceanfront, the Salty Goat Saloon—open each and every day—definitely ought to be on your radar.

Now, keep in mind this is basically a biker’s dive, but particularly earlier in the day it’s not uncommon to see families eating here. Things tend to get a little rowdier (and a lot noisier) in the evenings, particularly on weekends, but that comes with the territory.

The Salty Goat Saloon is a warm and welcoming sort of watering hole where you’ll likely be rubbing shoulders with regulars, thirsty road-trippers, and a few PCB tourists who’ve been clued into the place—and probably making fast friends all around. The palm/ocean/sunset views from the deck add to its charm, though the saloon isn’t right on the water.

Cold brews and not-messing-around cocktails served by a talented crew of bartenders anchor the drinks menu: You’ll find great happy-hour deals on them each day in the afternoons and also on the late-night end of things Sunday through Thursday. Salty Goat Saloon also offers weekly drink and food specials to boot.

Most Wednesday through Sunday nights feature live music from both local and touring musicians: another big draw. A pool table, shuffleboard, and jukebox round out the classic dive-bar entertainment.

Food-wise, the Salty Goat Saloon serves up a very respectable menu of bar bites: nothing fancy, but plenty of fried and greasy deliciousness to go along with your suds. They include some irresistible starters: everything from pork rinds and nachos to fried spear-cut pickles and quesadillas. The Salty Dog’s wings—served with a smorgasbord of different sauce options, including some mighty hot ones—have quite the following.

Then there are the burgers and sandwiches (including the enticingly named Heart Attack Melt), choose-your-own-toppings pizza, chicken fingers and fried/steamed shrimp baskets, and another crowd-pleasing tavern cuisine.

Sides run the gamut from potato salad and French fries to onion rings, coleslaw, and fried okra.

Now let’s call out a couple of the Salty Goat Saloon menu highlights!

Jalapeno BBQ Wings
Stop messing around and order your Salty Goat Saloon wings with the Jalapeno BBQ sauce–if your taste buds are up for the task, that is.

Smoked Tuna Dip
A star of the starter menu at the Salty Goat Saloon, along with those fried pickles…

Fish Tacos
The Salty Goat Saloon whips up fish tacos that punch a bit above the standard pub-grub weight.

Reuben
The Salty Goat Reuben’s a great choice for a sandwich here, though the Philly Cheese Steak isn’t bad either!

Bloody Mary
Those skilled Salty Goat Saloon bartenders know how to make a mean Bloody Mary.

From a lazy afternoon watching the game to a boisterous full crowd at 2 AM, the Salty Goat Saloon gives Panama City Beach a dive bar to be proud of.

Insider Tip:
-If you happen to find yourself in Panama City Beach during one of its Motorcycle Rallies/Bike Weeks, just be aware the Salty Goat Saloon is going to be jam-packed with bikers. Probably not the family-friendliest time to swing by—but if you’re here for Bike Week, a different story!
