HarborWalk Village is a central hub of activity in Destin. Whether you’re looking for shops, restaurants, water activities or even dolphins, it’s all here.
While there’s a lot to do at HarborWalk Village, fishing must be the first thing noted. The village is home to the country’s largest charter fishing fleet, and the fleet’s experienced captains are largely responsible for helping Destin become the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village. Even for those who don’t take a charter out, the fishing is still one of the major attractions — boats are regularly coming in and out, and lots of fish get cleaned right on the docks.
Along with the charter fishing boats, there are many marine-based outfits operating in the village. From paddleboard and kayak rentals to glass-bottom boat and dolphin tours, there are all sorts of ways to get out on the water of Destin Harbor. Other options include pirate ship excursions, parasailing adventures and jet ski rentals.
Land-based attractions include many restaurants and shops, which range from local mom-and-pop places to famous worldwide chains.
Many of the restaurants focus on seafood, sometimes offering filets that came straight from the docks in the village, but there are plenty of other food options as well. Carnivores, vegetarians, vegans and people with dietary restrictions won’t go hungry.
The shops tend to carry goods that have a coastal or island feel, with most items sporting a relaxed style that’s perfect for vacation. Lots of stores sell swimsuits, sandals, shirts, accessories and tourist items, but shoppers can find less common goods like eco-friendly mattresses and handcrafted artwork too.
In addition to the daily activities, shopping and dining, HarborWalk Village also frequently hosts events. Fireworks shows, Fat Tuesday parades and live entertainment are put on weekly, and holidays usually have especially festive celebrations.
No matter what you’re looking to do, HarborWalk Village is the place to head for fun in Destin. There’s something here for everyone in your group to enjoy.
A few of our favorite attractions at HarborWalk Village include:
Charter Fishing
The charter fishing here is some of the best in the world, and the captains offer a variety of outings. Talk with one of the charters about what you’d like to fish for, and they’ll recommend the best type of outing.
Other On-Water Adventure
If fishing isn’t your forte, opt for one of the many other on-water adventure options. Regardless of whether you’re on a relaxing sail or skipping across in a jet ski, there’s nothing like a few hours out on the ocean.
Fresh Seafood Restaurant
There are lots of good restaurants to choose from. Find one that serves up local seafood, and pick your favorite finned or shelled item on the menu.
Live Music
Take some time to stop and appreciate any music you might come across. The live performers are always good, and the location is absolutely perfect.
Fireworks Show
Come for a nighttime fireworks display, and see another side of HarborWalk village. Most of the boats will be in, but there’s still plenty to do.
Insider Tips:
– The parking garage for HarborWalk Village costs $10, but nearby parking across the street is available for free if you’re willing to walk just a little way.
– While the dolphin and other marine life tours offered are well worth considering, you don’t necessarily have to take a tour to spot dolphins. Walk out on one of the docks, and you might see a few nearby. Individual dolphins and pods frequent the area.
