A game at Baytowne Golf Club is more than just a chance to scrutinize the perfect club for the perfect stroke. If you’re on the Emerald Coast, it’s a chance to really take in the splendor around you. Breathe in the fresh air, change up your perspective with every hole, and get to know one of the best places to play (according to Golf Digest).
Located on the famed Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, this 4.5 star club is a must-see for both serious and hobbyist golfers alike. If you’re already visiting the northwest coast of Florida, this is definitely worth a stop — especially if you’re looking for a course with a little elevation.
An Excursion You Won’t Forget
The site of the Baytowne Golf Club extends from the Gulf to the Choctawhatchee Bay, and it’s one of the only places you’ll find in the Destin or South Walton area with a rolling landscape. Many of the tees are perfect for beginner and intermediate players but make sure that you’ve got the skills before you tackle the championship ones.
This club is a good choice for families, individuals, and colleagues alike. Children under 12 play for free on the afternoons (Sun – Thurs) and there are daily specials to entice you into stopping by. Or book a whole weekend at the Sandestin and see why Baytowne is one of the most popular destinations on the coast.
Package Deals
The package deals at the Sandestin let you sample a couple of the courses on the property, so you can find your favorite combo. With the Sandestin Players’ Package, you can play one round at Baytowne before heading over to the Raven Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Or try the Classic Golf Package at the Links Golf Club, another original course of this resort.
Wind your way through marshes and pines of the resort as you get a taste for these markedly different courses. And if you’re feeling up for it, this package deal includes free replay rounds on the day you play. You’ll get unlimited use of the practice facility with the package deal, as well as a golf car and accommodations.
A Florida Panhandle Treasure
This course was originally opened in 1986, but that wasn’t the last time it was renovated. There are four golf courses on the 2.400 acre Sandestin property, and Baytowne is second-oldest. Its designer, Tom Jackson, modernized the course in 2005. On more than half the holes of Baytowne, you’ll find a water element that makes the game both fun and fair.
The Sandestin is also home to a world-class spa, tennis club, biking trails, and fitness center, so there’s plenty to do if you’re staying at the resort. Check out the Village at Baytowne Wharf for dinner or live music after your game and let yourself relax amidst the beauty of the coast. Whatever you do though, just make sure to plan ahead as it’s not unusual to see tee times book up to a half year in advance.
