Some people say they’d fly to Destin just to eat at Mama Clemenza’s European Breakfast. After one meal here, we agree with that opinion. Mama Clemenza’s is truly something special. It’s a world away from the typical run-of-the-mill tourist fare you normally find in a beach town.
A bistro-like atmosphere awaits inside the unassuming strip mall location in Miramar Beach. Sit at a table, at the bar, or on the covered patio. You’ll soon feel like family thanks to the friendly staff and owners who make their way around the small dining room to ensure everyone is enjoying their food. Even the cappuccino gets a personal touch. Served in oversized mugs, the hot drink is custom roasted and topped with “Mama” written in the froth.
Owned and operated by a couple with roots in Italy and Ireland, Mama Clemenza’s European Breakfast farm-to-table approach to food is evident in the fresh and local fare. Seasonal specials make use of local produce and seafood. Look for daily specials written on the chalkboard sign. One of the restaurant’s more unique appetizers tops slices of Florida oranges with sea salt and olive oil. Admittedly, the combination sounds a bit strange, but the refreshing combination is the perfect way to kick off brunch, especially when you pair it with a pastry platter stacked high with flaky croissants.
While European at heart, Mama Clemenza’s European Breakfast draws inspiration from its Southern location. The New Orleans Shrimp & Smoked Gouda Grits are as good as any you’ll find in the Big Easy. A frequent special is the duck and waffles, a play on traditional fried chicken and waffles. And the espresso biscuits are without compare. Your meal will simply not be complete without them.
A few of our favorites at Mama Clemenza’s European Breakfast included:
Croque Madame
Quintessentially French, this is a breakfast sandwich you’ll remember. An open-faced sandwich topped with egg, prosciutto, creamy bechamel sauce, and Gruyere cheese, Mama Clemenza’s European Breakfast version will leave you satisfied, but not overly full. A mixed green salad with raspberry vinaigrette helps cut the richness of the sandwich.
Chicken Crepes
A savory approach to the traditional crepe, Mama Clemenza’s are stuffed with roast chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, and leeks and topped with smoked Gouda sauce. They’re rich, they’re filling. they’re delicious. It’s a meal you’ll remember for years to come.
New Orleans White Chocolate French Toast
If you’re looking for an absolutely decadent breakfast, order the white chocolate French toast. You won’t be disappointed. Topped with white chocolate rum sauce, this house specialty is a treat for the senses.
Insider Tip:
Mama Clemenza’s European Breakfast doesn’t accept reservations on weekends when the restaurant is busiest, but it does on weekday mornings.
