The Bottom Line:

Specialty breakfast and lunch offerings are the name of the game at Crackings along US Highway 98 in Florida. Although recently rebranded, this restaurant has long served as the go-to place in Destin for the full brunch experience. Whether you prefer sweet or savory dishes, you can find plenty of new favorites on their ever-changing menu.

What was once Another Broken Egg has become Crackings, though the mission, food quality and welcoming atmosphere stayed the same. Through an update of their logo, website, and other brand elements, they renewed their commitment to offering a delectable dining experience.

Rebranding also came with new opportunities to showcase their skills in making delightful southern-inspired breakfast and lunch dishes. In support of their new brand, the menu evolved as one of the owners’ sons added many creative dishes while keeping many local favorites.

The innovative additions elevate the dining experience with their complex flavors and Cajun flair. They always seem to be adding signature dishes, such as the Crawfish Eggs-Toufee, which piles on the flavor with fried green tomatoes, bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and buttery crawfish. Even when made with specialty ingredients, such as crawfish and lobster, this restaurant tends to serve generous portions that leave plenty left over for the next day.

Since they are a family-owned and operated establishment, they aim to provide attentive, friendly service, no matter how busy it gets. Their ultra-sweet servers make it a priority to regularly swing by to keep their patrons’ coffee cups and water glasses filled up. As the longstanding place to go for an excellent brunch, this restaurant does fill up fast as well, especially on the weekends. You will find that it is well worth the wait, however, after trying just one bite of any dish on the menu.

Some of their most popular menu items:

Sweet Dream Bites
Dusted in powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar, the Sweet Dream Bites are one part donut, one part croissant, and entirely too delicious for words. These light and airy concoctions always arrive at the table piping hot and served with fresh whipped cream. Although dessert-like, Crackings elects to serve this dish as an appetizer as it satisfies the sweet tooth while priming the taste buds for the main course.

Orchard Brie
For something a little more savory, this restaurant offers the Orchard Brie, served warm and melty with toasted French bread on the side. Before warming, the mini wheel of cheese receives a hearty topping of craisins, pecans, and apples. The chef finishes off this dessert by caramelizing the top with a quality orange liquor.

Beach Crab Benny
House-made crab cakes set atop English muffins kickstart the amazing dining experience offered with the Beach Crab Benny. This dish only gets better and better as the chefs add andouille sausage, poached eggs, and their signature Creole hollandaise sauce right over the top of those crab cakes and muffins. If you prefer it with a little less zing, ask to substitute turkey sausage for the andouille.

Ragin Cajun Omelet
With its mix of jalapenos, onions, celery, and red bell pepper, the Ragin Cajun omelet brings tons of flavor to the table. Along with those flavorful vegetables, this omelet has shrimp and crawfish stuffed inside. Rich hollandaise sauce infused with chipotle andouille covers the top of the omelet to complete this dish.

Tiramisu French Toast
This restaurant toes the line between breakfast and dessert with their incredible Tiramisu French Toast. You get three huge slices of French toast covered in scoops of sweetened mascarpone and coffee-infused whipped cream. A dusting of dark chocolate and cocoa beautifully completes this awesome treat.

While the thought of the food will get you through the door, the atmosphere will tempt you to stay long after the meal is over. The owners and their three sons run this restaurant as a family and strive to treat all their patrons like family as well. As a result, their prompt, friendly service will always make you feel welcome and right at home upon stepping through the doors.

Insider Tip:
-Weekends see the most traffic through this restaurant, so plan accordingly if you do not want to wait. The demand on weekends also increases quite a bit in the summer months as more tourists hit the streets of Destin.
-You can decrease your wait time by using the Yelp app to sign up for the waitlist. You have many shopping options as well all along Highway 98, including the Shoreline Village Mall, if you do end up waiting.
