Happy Ours Kayak & Bike Outpost is a long-standing outfitter that’s located on Cape San Blas Road. You will find their business on the side of the road backing up to Saint Joseph Bay, which gives them the unique advantage of being the only outfitter with direct beach access to the bay itself.
This bustling Port St. Joe outfitter first opened as a kayak rental business in 2000 and slowly started adding tours and later bicycles to their business model. Today, the team at Happy Ours Kayak & Bike Outpost pride themselves on being the most popular paddling guide and outpost and having the largest and most up-to-date fleet of paddle-style boats and bicycles. You will find single kayaks, tandem kayaks, sit-on-top kayaks, sit-in kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, cruiser bikes, and so much more at this location.
Rentals are by and large the biggest part of the Happy Ours Kayak & Bike Outpost business. You can rent their equipment either for the half day or the full day, with discounts available for multi-day rentals as well as bulk discounts and military discounts (not combinable). Every boat and paddle board rental comes with paddles, life vests, and whistles while all bikes come with baskets, locks, and helmets. If you are booking for an overnight, the staff will deliver all the necessary equipment within ten miles for a small delivery surcharge.
Need gear for your paddling or biking adventures? Happy Ours Kayak & Bike Outpost also has a bunch of incidentals or adventure gear available for rent. Such items include things like coolers, crab nets, and fishing rods to really outfit you for a fishing trip; or go for a beach package with a towel, dry bag, and snorkeling mask.
If you don’t feel comfortable taking a kayak or paddle board out onto the bay waters on your own, then you can also opt to be included in one of the group’s guided tours. Happy Ours Kayak & Bike Outpost offers a myriad of tours, including self-styled eco-tours and kayak-snorkeling trips that you can organize either to be just with your group or combine with other groups. There is also the very popular guided scalloping tour.
The Guided Scalloping Tour
The Guided Scalloping Tour by Happy Ours Kayak & Bike Outpost only takes place during the summer during select weeks that correspond with the region’s allocated scalloping season.
On this tour, your expert kayak guide will lead you out to grassy areas of the bay and the Gulf of Mexico plays where the tiny shelled creatures like to hide. Once there, they will show you out to catch, yes catch, these sneaky features while simultaneously learning more about the unique and beautiful biodiversity of this region. Members of your group will also learn what the FWC and the greater state of Florida are doing to restore these habitats and bring new bounties to the area. After your group has caught your fill, it’s back to the docks to learn how to harvest and cook this unique delicacy for a true Gulf coast meal.
An important thing to note is that the business is located on the same property as the owners’ home. Do not go during non-posted hours because of this. Also, they do allow pets on their property and rental kayaks but are strict on ensuring that they are always leashed and cleaned after.
Insider Tip:
At the end of each summer season, Happy Ours Kayak & Bike Outpost often retire several of its kayaks and bikes and offers them for sale at outstandingly low prices. This is in addition to bikes, boats, and other equipment they offer for sale all year round. However, the end-of-season is the very best time to go for outstanding sales on great condition used boats.
