Another Broken Egg Cafe in Destin: A Heapful of Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch Options
Local Expert's Rating:
4.5 / 5
The Bottom Line:

Another Broken Egg Cafe gives the Emerald Coast New Orleans-inspired cuisine on what must easily rank as one of the most extensive breakfast, brunch, and lunch menus in the Destin area. Though this is part of a restaurant chain, the food is, often enough, really worth writing home about.

Another Broken Egg Cafe has several locations in the Destin vicinity. This Legendary Drive cafe is opening soon; this review is based on other area locations, including the previous Destin spot.

Another Broken Egg Cafe was born in Old Mandeville, Louisiana back in 1996, and now has dozens of locations in multiple states. The original Destin location was actually the second Broken Egg Cafe to open, back in 1998.

The impressively extensive Another Broken Egg menu comes, unsurprisingly, with plenty of Louisiana spirit—and, more broadly, plenty of Southern classics. One of the pleasures of dining here is the option to splurge a little bit and loosen the waistbelt, or to go a more conservative route with a number of healthy options.

Plenty of tried-and-true breakfast and brunch staples are on offer, both in classic form and more creative twists. Take the pancakes, for example, which range from the house take on buttermilk pancakes to more outside-the-box creations such as peach cobbler, bananas foster, and lemon blueberry goat-cheese pancakes. The same goes for the Another Broken Egg omelet lineup, which includes the Mardi Gras Omelette—packed with Gulf shrimp, Louisiana crawfish, andouille, and peppers—and the Supreme Omelette, which gets its oomph from a combo of sausage, bacon, mushrooms, and onions, plus a topping of cheddar jack cheese. Oh, and did we mention the Lobster and Brie version?

Alongside French toast and waffle options, All Broken Egg Cafe also delivers such favorites as chicken and waffles, shrimp ’n grits, a few take on Eggs Benedict, Huevos Rancheros, and crab cakes paired with fried green tomatoes. Another of the house specialties is the Chilaquiles, which are tortillas pumped up with chorizo, jack and goat cheese, a pair of over-medium eggs, guajillo sauce, and more, paired with black beans, goat cheese, and cilantro and offered with sour cream and guacamole.

For more health-conscious eaters, All Broken Egg Cafe offers its “Sensible Selections,” which include salmon avocado toast, a veggie omelet, and the Granola, Fruit, and Quinoa Power Bowl that holds its own with any of the richer, greasier menu items.

The sides are worth keying into here, from the biscuit beignets and crab cakes to biscuits and gravy.

In all of this breakfast and brunch-y goodness, more straight-ahead lunch items aren’t neglected at All Broken Egg Cafe: You can order burgers, sandwiches such as the Turkey Mozzarella Panini, and various salads, including a laden Chicken, Mango, and Spinach Salad.

To wash all of this down, the cafe offers coffee, tea, juices, and brunch cocktails such as Bloody Marys and mimosas.

Here are some standout items on the All Broken Egg Cafe breakfast-to-lunch-spanning menu:

Crab Cake Benedict
Here’s a plate to start your day off right: jumbo lump crab cakes atop an English muffin and landed up with poached eggs, red peppers, green onions, and an andouille-infused hollandaise.

The Floridian Omelette
You aren’t hurting for omelet options at Another Broken Egg Cafe, but this one should definitely be on your shortlist for consideration: an omelet filled with cream cheese and topped off with crab meat sautéed in garlic butter, green onions, and jack cheese.

Cinnamon Roll French Toast
Instead of choosing between French toast and cinnamon rolls—two breakfast favorites—why not combine them? That’s the magic of the Cinnamon Roll French Coast at Another Broken Egg Cafe, with cinnamon rolls given the French-toast treatment and blanketed in Foster sauce, cream-cheese icing, whipped cream, and fresh berries.

City Grits
Definitely try the City Grits, an Another Broken Egg specialty you can order as a standalone side or swap into certain dishes (including the Crab Cake Benedict).

A definite problem at Another Broken Egg Cafe? Narrowing down your decision. But, after all, that’s a pretty good problem to have.

Insider Tip:
Another Broken Egg Cafe can get swamped and there are often significant wait times, so consider using the restaurant’s app to get your name on the list strategically.
